This study explores the design and pedagogical potential of immersive storytelling through Virtual Reality (VR) as a transformative tool for educational communication. Grounded in constructivist and experiential learning theories, the research investigates how narrative elements can be integrated into VR environments to foster deeper engagement, emotional resonance, and meaningful learning experiences. A design-based research (DBR) methodology was adopted to develop and evaluate a VR prototype centered around environmental education, in which learners assume the role of climate journalists navigating the effects of deforestation. Expert evaluations were conducted to assess the prototype’s effectiveness in terms of narrative structure, presence, interactivity, and alignment with learning objectives. Findings indicate that immersive storytelling in VR can significantly enhance learner motivation and comprehension when narratives are designed to balance user agency with pedagogical coherence. Emotional engagement, particularly through role-playing and branching narratives, was found to contribute to increased empathy and retention. However, considerations such as cognitive load, accessibility, and cultural inclusivity emerged as critical factors in the design process. The study highlights the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and thoughtful integration of technological affordances in order to maximize educational value. By offering practical design insights and identifying key challenges, this research contributes to a growing body of work on immersive learning. It underscores the potential of VR storytelling to redefine traditional approaches to teaching and learning, and lays a foundation for future empirical research involving diverse learner populations and subject areas.
