Social media has fundamentally altered the dynamics of public opinion formation in the digital age. Platforms such as Twitter (X), Facebook, and TikTok not only facilitate information exchange but also act as algorithmic amplifiers that shape perceptions, emotions, and political behavior. This paper examines the mechanisms through which social media influences public opinion, with a focus on information cascades, echo chambers, platform algorithms, and the role of influencers. Drawing on interdisciplinary literature and international case studies, the paper analyzes both the democratizing potentials and the polarizing dangers of social media discourse. It concludes by recommending a multi-layered approach to media literacy, platform accountability, and regulatory oversight to safeguard democratic deliberation in the digital society.
