Abstract

Computational neuroscience and cognitive systems form the backbone of modern brain-inspired technologies. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of their theoretical foundations and emerging applications, with emphasis on Malaysian contributions to the global discourse. We explore how biologically informed modeling enables simulation of cognitive processes such as perception, attention, and decision-making. The discussion integrates neural dynamics, cognitive architectures, machine learning, and translational impacts in healthcare, education, and adaptive AI systems. Furthermore, we highlight ongoing Malaysian initiatives and propose future research directions that synergize neuroscience and artificial intelligence for societal benefit.
