Peer Review Process
Authors submitting to Future-JCERM are presumed to agree to certain representations regarding their submission and their rights to publish the work. Authors are strongly encouraged to review the journal’s Author Representations Policy for complete details before submission.
How to Submit
Manuscripts intended for publication should be submitted by uploading an electronic version through the journal's submission portal: Future-JCERM Submission Portal.
-
Account Creation: The lead author must create an account and provide:
- Full contact details.
- A statement confirming that the submitted manuscript:
- Has not been previously published.
- Is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.
-
Conference or Workshop Papers: If the submission is an expanded version of a conference or workshop paper, the lead author must:
- Identify the conference or workshop.
- Specify the differences between the submitted manuscript and the original version.
-
ORCID System: The journal supports the ORCID identification system. Authors without an ORCID identifier will be prompted to create one during the submission process.
Review Process
All submissions to Future-JCERM undergo a rigorous peer-review process managed within the Manuscript Central system. The review process includes the following steps:
- Initial Submission: Authors submit the manuscript to the Editor-in-Chief (EIC).
- Associate Editor Assignment: The EIC assigns an Associate Editor (AE) based on the manuscript's topic, availability, and potential conflicts of interest. If the EIC has a conflict of interest with any of the authors, an AE is assigned to oversee the review process.
- Referee Selection: The AE recommends 3-4 referees to the EIC. The EIC ensures the referees have no conflicts of interest with the authors and are not over-solicited. Deadlines for reviews typically range from 4 to 10 weeks.
- Paper Review: The AE and referees review the manuscript. The EIC monitors the progress of the reviews to ensure timely completion.
- Decision Proposal: The AE proposes an editorial decision based on the referees' reports. Possible decisions include:
- Accept
- Minor Revisions
- Major Revisions
- Reject
- Author Notification: The EIC sends the decision letter to the authors along with referees' reports. Anonymous copies of the reviews are shared with the AE and referees for acknowledgment.
- Production Processing: Accepted manuscripts are forwarded to the journal's production team for publication.
Revisions:
- Minor Revisions: Authors are expected to address reviewer comments and resubmit the manuscript promptly. The AE reviews the revised version before final acceptance.
- Major Revisions: Revised manuscripts undergo a new round of review, typically by the original referees.
Authors of rejected manuscripts may resubmit them as new submissions. In some cases, the AE and EIC may encourage resubmission after substantial improvements.
Address Updates
Authors must notify the EIC of any changes to their contact information.
Editorial Correspondence: For inquiries related to editorial matters, contact jcerm@fupress.org.
Technical Correspondence
Technical notes or letters with detailed technical content may be submitted as Technical Correspondence. These submissions undergo a streamlined review process compared to full-length papers.
Author Appeals
If an author has concerns about the handling of their manuscript, they should:
- Raise their concerns with the EIC.
- If unresolved, escalate the appeal to the Chair of the Publications Board in accordance with Future-JCERM's appeal policy.
